About
Keep Austin Fed is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with the mission of reducing hunger and helping the environment by connecting surplus food with our neighbors in need. Please join us by becoming a volunteer!
Below are the steps for how to become a volunteer:
1. Request to join Keep Austin Fed
Look for the "Join" button at the bottom right of the banner photo on Keep Austin Fed's page. Click on this to complete your request to join Keep Austin Fed. You will also be asked to upload a copy of your drivers license and vehicle insurance (this is part of our liability insurance requirements).
2. Attend an Orientation: Zoom or Asynchronous Module (there are two options)
a) Zoom: You can join a zoom orientation that is hosted by one of our volunteer trainers. Sign up for one on the calendar below. Be sure to submit your impact once you complete the online orientation.
OR
b) Asynchronous Module: Go through our orientation module on your own time and at your own pace! Once you complete the orientation we will receive a notification and will follow up with next steps. Our volunteer orientation module landing page can be found here: https://keepaustinfed-8375.freshlearn.com/76111. You will need to create an account on FreshLearn to go through the orientation.

Once you have completed the steps above, your membership will be approved and you'll be sent a link to Food Rescue US. This is our food scheduling platform where you will see our calendar of open food runs and be able to register. You'll also receive a link to tutorial videos on how to use the platform.
Thanks so much for your interest--if you have a question, email volunteer@keepaustinfed.org!
You are also welcome to complete a Food Handler's Certificate that covers more food safety best practices. This is not a requirement to become a volunteer. You can obtain this certification at https://safefoodtest.com/courses/texas-online-food-handler-training-and-assessment/ or any of these other state approved websites . It generally costs $10-15 depending on the site, is good for 2 years, and takes 1-2 hours to complete.
