Pickup surplus prepared meals between 8-9 a.m. or 1:30-2:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays from the UT athletics cafeteria on the University of Texas campus.
From I-35 take W. Martin Luther King Blvd, turn north on Brazos, then take a right at the stop sign to Jester Circle. Follow the road and veer left where the sign reads "Not a thru street." Park at the loading dock marked B.M."Mack" Rankin Jr. Longhorn Dining Hall.
Enter the dining hall and let staff know you are a KAF volunteer there to pickup a food donation. Expect about 200 pounds of food, usually several large frozen aluminum catering trays. Weigh the food on a scale on the loading dock and log the details on their donation form.
Drop off at Caritas Austin, 611 Neches. Look for the garage door with a Caritas logo on the 7th street side of the building. Pull up to the garage door and ring the bell. Food can be brought directly though the garage door and unloaded there. Carts are available for use. A staff member will be available to assist with the drop off and to show volunteers where the items go. Donations accepted Mon, Wed and Thurs from 8 am-4:30pm, Tues from 8am-6:30pm and Fri from 8am-11:30am. Large quantities accepted because Caritas serves up to 300 people daily. Call (512) 646-1260.
At the request of the kitchen operator, all volunteers must have a food handlers license and be approved after a short training session.
